Sweet and sour meatballs
I love meatballs with sweet and sour combination, am sure everyone love this dish. This recipe calls for ground pork and beef though, ground chicken is also great and this is easy-to-make version. So I grill the meatballs instead of frying. And I like a bit of less sweet sauce so reduce the brown sugar. You can add more sugar according to your taste. (I added sliced yellow zucchini and onion for color and texture)
For meatballs
  • 150g pork and beef, ground
  • ¼ middle-sized onion, chopped
  • ½ tbsp sesame oil
  • ½ tbsp starch
  • ½ egg
  • Salt/pepper, to taste
For sauce
  • 3 tbsp chicken broth
  • 1 and ½ tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp black vinegar
  • ½ tbsp brown sugar
  • ½ tbsp soy sauce
  • ½ tsp starch
  • Salt/pepper, to taste
For the meatballs
  1. In a medium sized bowl, combine the ground pork and beef, minced onion, sesame oil, egg and a bit of salt/pepper. Mix well and form into balls.
  2. Grill the meat balls in a large pan over medium heat until brown.
  3. Remover from the pan and set aside
For the sauce
  1. In a small bowl, combine the sauce ingredients (ketchup, soy sauce, black vinegar, sugar and salt/pepper, chicken broth, and starch) and mix well.
For the dish;
  1. Add a bit of oil to the large frying pan, add onion and zucchini and cook until slightly tender and translucent.
  2. Add the sauce mixture and cook until it’s thickened.
  3. And then add the meatballs and stir to coat well with the sauce.
